I consider myself a transplant-native of Colorado as I moved here over 14 years ago from Texas! I am fortunate to hold several roles in life that are so important to me. I am a mother, wife, friend, and counselor! My interests include horseback-riding, fantasy/fiction novels, movies, tennis, family game nights, window-shopping, re-organizing the kitchen cabinets, and starting multiple craft projects at once.
I began my journey to becoming a therapist in an unusual place: an animal hospital. I have always loved all critters, so I began working at the animal hospital to be close to the creatures that bring me joy. I expected to learn about different pets and snuggle kittens all day; what I did not expect was the vast amount of grief I would witness and feel connected to. As anyone who has loved an animal knows, our time with them is usually more limited than we would like. For me, this inevitability sometimes meant that a family’s last goodbyes with a beloved pet would happen right in front of me. I found myself in a position to provide support and comfort, as much as possible, during what were clearly painful experiences for these families. I felt unbelievably honored to have been there for someone during a difficult time and truly connected to the impactful nature of supportive/loving relationships in our lives (between human or furry family members). Since that moment, there has never been a doubt in my mind that counseling is my purpose and my passion.
I received my Bachelor of Science from Colorado State University and My Masters in Couples and Family Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. I completed my internship in a private practice setting where I further developed my love of working with couples, families, and brave individuals seeking support.
I believe that people strive to find connection and meaning in life. These pursuits require vulnerability, and that is just plain hard sometimes! My experiences both as a human and as counselor have taught me that our close relationships can be our biggest strengths and source of comfort. Therapy, then, can be a perfect venue to build and strengthen those relationships, if we lean into the process. I operate with the understanding that everyone fills roles in life (mother, friend, husband, employee, sister etc..) and their behavior in these roles is directly related to their needs and experiences in the relationships they engage in. In this way, I utilize a systemic approach to support the overall function for all parties involved. As a counselor, your goals are my goals. I believe that every person, family, and couple is unique. My job is to meet my clients where they are on their journeys and facilitate supportive conversations and experiences to help them reach their goals. Along the way, I have been honored to work with many systems and individuals dealing with differing concerns.
I am proud to offer a strengths-based, systemically-focused approach to counseling. I aim to walk along side my clients on their journey towards growth and connection and offer insights as a fellow-human.
As no two people or relationships are alike, I beleive my client has the most knowlege about their needs and I do my best to tailor my approach accordingly.
